From the Editor’s Desk: Nosegasm.com on Daytime York Region

And we’re live in three, two, one…

Despite having been on live television a few times already, hearing the countdown to air always gives me the jitters. Seeing the big cameras pointed at me with the bright lights overhead is intimidating, as is the knowledge that in moments thousands of viewers will be seeing me in real time.

On June 12th I was invited back to Daytime York Region with Jeff Moore on Rogers TV, a lifestyle program that airs daily outside of Toronto. About a year ago I did my first segment with them, and in November we spoke again about wintertime beauty recommendations. This time around we spoke spring and summer beauty, and it was a blast. I will link the segment here when it goes up online.

I wanted to take a moment to elaborate on a few items we talked about in the show, since we had a lot to squeeze into a limited timeframe.

First, these beauties from FragranceNet.com: Eros by Versace and Light Blue Dreaming in Portofino by Dolce & Gabbana. If you haven’t heard of FragranceNet.com you must be living under a rock, because all perfume lovers know they’re the premiere place to find legit beauty products for a fraction of the retail price. For example: Eros sells for $80 in department stores, but on FragranceNet.com you’ll find it for $58.991 (savings of $21.01). And Light Blue Dreaming in Portofino is equally impressive at $65.99 compared to the retail price of $952 (savings of $29.01). Take those $50.02 in savings and you can buy a third bottle, like Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male Summer 2012 (MSRP $70, FragranceNet.com price $43.993). Truly, there is nothing better than getting summery perfumes for a bargain, and FragranceNet.com is the real deal. Check out my reviews for Eros and Light Blue Dreaming in Portofino, coming later this summer.

Now, I’m sure you can guess how excited I was to give some international airtime to Jul et Mad Paris. I fell in love with their four scents last year, including summertime stunner and modern interpretation of the classic cologne Aqua Sextius. This summer Julien and Madalina are offering what they’re calling the Luxury Case, available in each of their fragrances, consisting of a 50ml fine fragrance bottle and 7ml travel spray, both of which arrive in a beautiful leather box (230€). The 50ml bottles are also being sold in the Love Basics format (145€) and the slim 20ml bottles called Le Compagnon are available again this year (75€). I have one of the latter, and it is beautiful to look at. I hope you all get the chance to try something from this love-infused luxury line. I will be writing my thoughts on their new Les Whites collection in the coming months.

Of course, I also had to include the Canvas & Concrete fragrance primer, a recent addition to my collection. Based on my tests this product has the ability to extend the wear of certain lightweight scents, such as those popular in summer. Check out my full review here.

From Canadian brand Jealous Body Scrub Jeff and I sniffed the Coffee & Coconut scrub, a natural alternative to the dreaded plastic microbead, which hydrates while stripping away dead skin. It smells just like brewed coffee, and I can’t wait to try the new varieties they just came out with. Jeff mistook it for sniffing beans in between perfumes, but the reaction is priceless!

All the way from the Caribbean Tijon sent us a masculine called 2.0 and a feminine named Éclectique, which Jeff fell in love with straight away. One is adventurous, the other is fruity, and together they were unique enough to earn a spot in our spot! We almost booked a cruise right there and then.

The USPS let us down a bit and held a 30mL bottle of Perfumes by Terri Oui Plus! a little longer than expected, so we didn’t get to talk about it on the show. However, we surprised the viewers that wrote in for our Aqua Sextius giveaway with a second prize of Oui Plus!, allowing them to explore this outdoorsy, delicious smell, reviewed here.

Finally, I briefly touched on my experience with Caryl Baker Visage and the goodies I got from their Tropical Retreat collection. The girls in the studio all looked jealously at the bright colours, and I made sure to point them to the flagship store in Vaughan Mills.

Once again I would like to extend a big thank you to Jeff Moore for hosting me on his show, and thank you to all the viewers that tuned in and took an enthusiastic part in the giveaways we hosted. I can’t wait to share more information about these great summer releases with you guys in the coming weeks!

  1. How cool Gil! I bet you make a great TV personality. Jul et Mad has been on my radar for a while now. I will have to look into these sets. And congrats to the lucky viewers! I look forward to hearing more about your TV experiences!

    • Thank you so much! It is nerve racking, I’ll tell you that. In the seconds leading to the beginning I always want to flee the studio! LOL Jul et Mad Paris is a really wonderful company because they are truly inspired by their love story. I just got their new Les Whites collection and without giving anything away, it’s amazing! 😉 Hopefully we will have more giveaways in the future so you can try them. In the meantime their Love Dose 5ml bottles are about 26 Euros each, so definitely a splurge, but totally worth it! Try Aqua Sextius, it changed my perspective on the modern cologne.
