I think I will always hold a spot for Bath & Body Works in my heart.

They may repetitively discontinue my favourite scents, and they may not have enough locations (I have to drive 20 minutes to the nearest one – #FirstWorldProblems), but they make good products, damn it.

A few times a year they release huge new collections that practically beg to be explored in detail. They do this in the fall, for the winter holidays, and a few times during the spring and summer. Right on schedule, they did this last spring with the big World Garden collection, in which they introduced three individual fragrance lines, Morroco Orchid & Pink Amber being one of them. Of course, with a name like that, I had to check it out.

I’ll give B&BW this: they certainly covered all their bases with this collection. There were products of all types in the scent, from Triple Moisture Body Cream to Shimmer Fizz Body Mousse. I walked in knowing that I wanted a preview-sized EDT in the scent, because I was loving the one I picked up in Endless Weekend. Say what you will, but their EDT previews are always a great way to try their stuff without shelling out $40 for a full-size.

I was able to find the new line alright, Diamond Shimmer Mist and Shower Gel and Body Lotion and all, but was a little disappointed that the preview EDT was not quite available yet.

Not one to leave the store empty-handed, I grabbed the smaller fine fragrance mist instead, even though I always prefer an EDT over a body spray.

At any rate, I’m really happy to be able to talk to you about this week’s product: the Bath & Body Works 88 mL Morocco Orchid & Pink Amber fine fragrance mist, which retails for $6.

Bath & Body Works Morocco Orchid & Pink Amber Travel Size Fine Fragrance Mist

Bath & Body Works Morocco Orchid & Pink Amber Travel Size Fine Fragrance Mist

I’ve talked about full-size fine fragrance mists from Bath & Body Works before, but never the smaller ‘travel sizes’. The presentation for both is similar, only as you might guess, on a smaller scale. The bottle for Morocco Orchid & Pink Amber is clear in colour, long and narrow in shape, with a clear plastic cap on top of a baby blue atomizer. There is a wrap-around sticker on the bottle with a design that slightly evokes India, slightly evokes Arabia. There is a fucia flower in the middle of the bottle with the fragrance name, and the concentration and bottle size is printed under that. The back has the bar code and the rest of the information is on a small sticker on the bottom of the bottle. The fluid is baby blue in colour, and the sprayer works accurately. Overall, a lovely presentation for what could have easily become a boring bottle. It looks sophisticated, mature, yet playful.

The Bath & Body Works website description reads:

Lush Morocco orchid, sensual amber & succulent apricot capture the rich warmth of a lively marketplace and glittering desert.

When you read something like that, you think you’re going to know what to expect. You think, another fruity floral. You think, how original (not). You think you know, but you don’t. What comes out of this gorgeous little bottle is a soapy, fruity amber scent. It is warm, it is sensual, and it can’t be pinned down to a lively marketplace or a glittering desert but rather the smell of warm morning breezes. Morocco Orchid & Pink Amber is a human-skin fragrance with a dash of sweet apricot (on my mom apricot is the predominant note) and a laundry detergent facet that may or may not be orchids. However, it is not floral in the slightest, nor is it girly and pink and fun. It is a grown-up smell from Bath & Body Works, and I love it. It makes me repeatedly bring my wrists to my nose for a whiff, and that says something.

I always have a tough time judging performance with these mists because my nose becomes accustomed to them quickly, and to me they fade within minutes. For me this one lasted the same as others, so I’m disappointed there, especially because it is such a gorgeous scent.

Verdict: How exciting that there’s a great Woman smell in the B&BW lineup! The EDT is supposed to have the same notes, but they’ve been known to tweak things slightly between products. If you can get over the weird-looking bottle of the EDT, get that – you’ll enjoy the beautiful fragrance and good performance.
