Free product, anyone?
I got this fragrance mist (which I call a body spray despite being a reasonable young man) for free as part of Bath & Body Works’ illogical spend-$10-get-a-free-$14.50-product promotion. Since I’ve been going through it like crazy, I thought I’d give it a review before it becomes nothing but a distant memory. This is Bath & Body Works’ Sweet Pea fine fragrance mist, and this 236 mL bottle retails for $14.50.
I won’t lie, I’m generally not big on the idea of a product that I need to reapply throughout the day. Unfortunately, fine fragrance mists fall right into that category. They smell wonderful for a moment after you spray them, but within half an hour you realize you smell like, well, yourself. And as everyone knows, a talented fragrance critic such as myself (written with an almost-straight face) can’t allow that to happen. I’ve found that the best way to make this product last is to keep it in a central place in my life (my ever so elegant locker) and give it a few sprays between classes. Convenient? No. Practical? No. But how else am I going to go through this monstrous bottle!?
Speaking of which, the bottle is a long and narrow plastic tube, reminiscent of Aquolina’s Pink Sugar bottle. The ‘body’ of the bottle has a light printed design of a pretty pink flower on a pink-to-green gradient background. It reads: sweet pea / fine fragrance mist / fine bruine parfumée / Bath & Body Works / e 236 mL/8 fl 0z. The back has a small bar code and the bottom has a small sticker with safety information.
The description for Sweet Pea reads:
A bright & optimistic fragrance, Sweet Pea is an award-winning mix of juicy raspberries & pear kissed by soft pink petals.
Bright and optimistic is an oddly accurate description, although they left out one key adjective: sweet. This thing is rot-your-teeth sweet, in a way that can be pleasant at best and nauseating at worse. It drips with ripe pears, fresh flowers, and sweet juicy berries. Despite the season, I’ve found myself reaching for this constantly, almost like a pick-me-up throughout the day. For a moment after I spray this, spring is nearer and the flowers aren’t buried under three feet of snow…
Like I said earlier, the staying power for this fragrance is next to nothing, but the projection is good. I wouldn’t repurchase this because I don’t believe the price is worth it, but I wouldn’t mind getting another free one as part of a similar promotion.
Thanks for reading my review! What do you think of Sweat Pea?
